Carly,It's been probably two months since I saw you. Maybe more. Time has escaped me, so to speak, and I doubt this message will ever find you, but I have nobody else to talk to.I miss you. And I think magic might be real. That or I've lost it.The day before, as I am writing this, I encountered a town in ruins. There seems to be about fifteen people, give or take, that have all stumbled upon this site within minutes of each other. I and several others found bloodied, tattered, and burnt ribbons in the vicinity, which is ominous, and implies a past tragedy. Unfortunately, within hours of this discovery, it was also realized that none of us could move past a certain distance from the town.. hence my worry that this will not reach you. There is apparently a postman, but I have no idea how far I am from home.I've come to meet a blind person (or at least I suppose they're blind, they say they "see" things but I've never seen them take off their blindfold?) and they've agreed to let me live with them. They're even building a house, and let me tell you, it doesn't look too bad.In any case, I'm going to try and get some sleep. There's already so much fear, and the stage is set for so much more. What I've tasted has been... wonderful.These others vampires may set me back, though. They're clearly the wretched human-spawned sort, but I suppose being outnumbered makes for strange bedfellows. I'll make use of them, for now, but they're human too, and so they can hurt.I'm particularly interested in that Blair: so full of fear, so fragile.I wonder whether this "gift" of mine would shatter her.

My brother always said that we worried too much.…I don't have them with me, to remind me of what I said.This is the longest I've ever been on my own. The fact that Mother and Father can't loom over me like a guillotine blade is exhilarating. That's not what scares me. What scares me is that I don't have my siblings with me.
Verity is long gone, wherever she is, and Finnian was shipped off to that school…I'm alone. It's just Blair. Not Blair and Verity. Not Blair and Finnian. Not even Blair and Finnian and Verity.
My parents aren't someone you give ampersands to. They take up the whole group. Mr. Toble (and everyone else in the group.) Mrs. Toble (and whoever she is with.)I think I'm the opposite. (and Blair).They wanted to name me Solace if I had been born a boy. …I wasn't. Two little girls with all the trappings of being town sweethearts. A matching pair.
If Verity was the moon, cold and reflective, I am the sun, warm and bright. …But I am also the sun, burning and blinding.I think I blind myself sometimes. She said I had a journey ahead of me. That it would hurt.As I sit out a storm, the sky red as anything, I wonder if the journey will end here. I don't think the others with me have noticed me writing. I keep sneaking glimpses outside.
There's something red in the ruins where we are. I want to be sick just being near it. It looks like the glimpse of the moon I saw before the clouds came in.I came here hoping to be alone and know what that feels like, but I'm finding that I hope I make friends.Their names are Ven and Luther. I need to remember that. I'm bad at names.I can barely see the page I'm writing on.This place makes me remember all the stories Mom made us grow up with. She said she tested us with iron as soon as we showed signs of intelligence. I still have the scar on my shoulder where Verity stabbed me with iron scissors, not knowing they were sharp.
Mom said when I screamed, and she screamed, she knew we were human.I never really believed in all those stories. They were something made to keep us children happy and obedient.It didn't work. Not with us.Dad still used the belt on Finnian when he signed a shoe with spit. It was the last straw.…and Verity’s been gone longer.I read all those books.I still think they're nonsense, but the storm is clearing up, and I think we need to get moving soon.I can't shake the feeling something is wrong with this place.…but, I'll try my best to be the sun, here.

Dear Fisher,The Journey to Oakhurst was uneventful until my maid got attacked by a wolf. The professor stayed behind as I continued to Oakhurst to try to find help. The town was abandoned, but a group of others found the place at the same time as I arrived.Here's where it gets interesting, I got someone with medical knowledge to come try and help my Maid, but as we tried to leave the valley we found ourselves trapped. What's more, we found various glowing crystals around which we have been calling Beacons. We have been changing them to an orange color which makes us feel healthier. Also, in the various tombs around the valley we have been finding books which have been dissapearing into knowledge itself.Also, the moon is blood red, there's a set of ruins that had a beacon of the same color, and various bloody ribbons have been found around.It's all really interesting, spooky and occult, more so than I expected when coming here. It feels like there is something, or someone, hiding behind the shadows of the trees – not every tree, but ANY tree. Maybe I am just imagining it – I have run out of supplies, so maybe I am just dehydrated and imagining things. Hello… whoever finds this.
It’s been a couple of days since I last made a note, which I seem to have lost, which is a little odd. Only a little mind, because I have lost count of the strange occurrences in the last 48 hours.
Yesterday, at dawn, I finally found a sign of civilisation, some old, abandoned town, with every structure a ruin. Not the rest bite I was looking for, but it gave me the basis to build a shelter to protect me from the elements. What’s really weird is that moments after I arrived, so did more travellers, all strangers to each other, arriving over a day or so at the same location entirely independent of each other, with so little in common. From Nobles to Amnesiacs, to nuns and to psychologists, it’s certainly an eclectic group. A group that’s now stuck with each other…We can’t leave.I don’t have a way to make it make sense – an invisible barrier isn’t something from the world of logic and reason. Ven (the psychologist) thinks it’s a case of mass-hysteria, which doesn’t feel like the exact answer, but it’s better than no explanation at all. It doesn't explain the bloodied ribbons, the glass… beacons, I think we are calling them, the ruined castle or the red sky, nor does it explain a letter that turned up, seemingly describing discovering the same anomalies that we are, but with no evidence of anyone living here in recent times. None of this makes sense.Maybe this strangeness is what I was sent to find. Maybe the solution I need is here amongst the ruins, but weirdly, I hope I’m wrong….I was looking for signs of hope, not of dread.

I read a report in the Blackwyn newspaper a month ago, citing increased undead activity plaguing the woods surrounding the abandoned town of Oakhurst. It said the local people consider the town to be cursed, so everyone is too afraid to enter to find out what’s happening. Exactly the kind of place you and I like to wander, albeit for different reasons.I’m writing to you from the last town on the road before entering the woods. If I find the rumors to be true, perhaps this place could finally overcome your skepticism. I wonder if the zombies have settled in the old town and made it their own. No matter the result, I’m sure this will be an enlightening trip. I hope your own research is going well, and I look forward to hearing from you when I return.Sincerely,

Log 1-Today I entered the Forest, searching for the town of Oakhurst. The woods here are dense, filled with lots of trees and shrubbery. It’s early autumn so the orange leaves are bright against the gloomy skies. Still, there are plenty of pine trees and open spaces. The terrain is rough with lots of hills and caves.[drawing of a cave surrounded by trees and grass]On my way to town, I found a tiny cave. It was too shallow for zombies to live in, but could serve as a temporary shelter. There was silver in it.-There are other people in this town! I was told it was abandoned. The wood is rotted, the stone is crumbling, and everything is collapsed. It looks like the ideal place for zombies to roam, but there’s no sign of a civilization as I had hoped for.[badly drawn collapsed house]The people here are strange. Not one of them is here because they heard there’s undead here! Not one! They all have their reasons but it’s concerning that they don’t know.I traveled with a small group into some caves and got lost. I didn’t see a single zombie! But I did get a lot of silver.Someone back in town said they had seen a zombie by an old castle. I’ll ask them to show me later.-I met a wonderful person named Eris. The two of us and a few others went to the castle. It really wasn’t much of a castle, but there was a really cool crypt. The others said it was boring, but me and Eris had a lot of fun! There were lots of names on the graves, one big one for “Smajor.” We took some candles and skulls.One of my new neighbors, Ven, wasn’t happy with our grave robbing for some reason.-I’ve seen two zombies of note so far.One was wearing a normal outfit, but the other looked more recently turned. It was still wearing some kind of robe. Both targeted me specifically, and were quickly killed by my companions.More research will be required when I am on my own. Maybe I can get Eris to help me.For now, I’m going to finish constructing a small house for myself in town. Hopefully there will be more undead abound tonight.-[drawing of two zombies]-End note 1

Dear Ash,
I don’t think things are okay anymore, things started off okay! They did! But the more that happens the more I realize it isn’t okay- People are saying there are vampires, everyone is yelling and fighting. I just want to go home. I miss home, it was easy, it was okay- I should have just let the marriage go on and given up writing, it would have been so much easier..I’m scared Ash, I feel more scared then I ever have, My roommate is saying things will be fine! That we need to just smile! I trust Novo, she is probably right, but,, I am starting to understand more and more that most of the people here don’t like me. There are vampires and no one wants me around them,, I’ve been burdening them. I feel so alone despite being in a town filled with others.I think I let someone get turned, I think it’s my fault.. I was with Asriel and Holly, and we went up to the black tower together.. Holly didn’t want to go near it, instead she and Asriel left together and when Asriel came back to town-Apparently Holly did something when they separated from me- and I keep seeing bats I keep seeing them, they are everywhere- I’m going to die- I’m going to die here..I have been mostly out on my own.. Most of the others turn away at the idea of traveling with me.. Who did you follow though? Are you alright? Ronan,That is really weird what happened with the letter. I got thrown my letter from a random person in town, and then they ran off... Honestly I wish I could tell you where I went. I was on my way to Russia, but I think I got lost on the way. Also where ever I ended up seems to also have a invisible barrier that does not allow us to leave.As far as my photos they are coming out weird and I do not know if it is the way I have built this new camera or if it is the weird magic that seems to be keeping us here. But people are being blacked out and these beacons around the place look weird in the photos.But on a happier note the silver here is super pure and shiny, and am hoping I can use it some way either on my camera or my film... What is the area your at like? You say the mining enterprise has went an unexpected way how so?

To whoever finds this letter,My name is Ira Icey, and I believe I am going to die here.The here i mention is a town, surrounded by the woods, with 16 other people.People, who I do not know, nor fully trust.They tell me its okay, that we're going to get out of this- and maybe they're right! Lark’s journalDate: xx/xx/xxxxLocation: currently unknownNothing better to start off an entry than stating that I have no idea where I currently am since I managed to lose my map and break my compass after a little tumble in the hills. Continuing roughly in the direction I think I was going, I found myself at a small lake surrounded by some hills. There are paths here but they seem to not be in frequent use. The most notable thing here is the tower in the middle of this lake. I will come back later for more detailed research but first I need to find or make some new tools to use.—------------I ended up finding other people in the woods. I know I probably shouldn’t be so trusting but it’s smarter to travel with other people when I have no way of figuring out my location by myself. The two didn’t seem to know each other before. It didn’t seem like they knew where they were either. Regardless, they came with me back to the lake to see if we could find signs of use there. The tower was completely empty of life but not in disrepair. There was a weird structure on top of the tower that looked like it could be a light of some sort. There is also a weird light on top of the surrounding hills. Requires further investigating.We decided to head along the path in hopes of finding shelter for the coming night. The weather seems to be getting even colder. On the way we came across another seemingly random traveler who proceeded to direct us to a ruined village full of even more people. I hope to find more information here about what this place is. For now the most important thing is to scavenge the house ruins for materials for shelter. I am choosing to keep trusting the 2 people I first met.—------------There is definitely something off about this region. During the night the other people kept talking about seeing “the undead” everywhere. I only managed to catch a small glimpse of a weirdly moving figure before it was struck down and just… disappeared? I’m sure there is a logical explanation to this. After all, the undead coming back to life are just tales.Me and my new roommates decided to go back to investigate the light on the hill after morning arrived. I should probably finally state their names. First is Fisher who seems very capable in most areas. I’m glad to have someone strong to move with since I am quite lacking in strength. Next is Irene. She confuses me slightly. A wealthy looking lady obsessed with fairytales alone in the woods? Still she seems trustworthy and capable of keeping up so I am fine with her. It’s nice to have someone talkative to keep the mood up in this weird place.—------------The light was coming from a crypt of sorts. At the very end there was a chest with a book. I decided to take the book with me. It’s not grave robbing, it’s research. There was not much else of note so we continued investigating the surrounding areas. On the other side of the hill was a weird looking forest. We swam across the river and after gathering some more resources continued on. This region has a lot of strange structures. We came across some sort of obelisk that was, once again, in the middle of a shallow lake. On the structure I found this weird head. It’s featureless and grey with some weird crack where the face would be. I’m taking it with me to research it further. I forgot about this earlier but in the town and here there are also those weird light looking things. The one in town changed colours after a bunch of people were doing something to it. I’d currently rather not take unnecessary risks with anything unknown.—------------I will continue searching the places I’ve already been to figure out more things about this place. It will probably take a couple days so I need to prepare well and inform my roommates so they don’t question my sudden absence.

 Letter to Misty

Dear Misty,I don't even know where to start. I still haven't even found out the name of this place. I'm so confused this is all so wrong. First off I have to face that the undead actually are real and then suddenly we're dealing with vampires? Multiple people who are also trapped here were shaken up from apparently getting attacked by some others. There are weird books mentioning skills to freeze vampires, these beacons and just everything else going on. I even read some of those weird books and they seem to have given me some weird ancient seeming knowledge of supernatural skills.All I have to my advantage against vampires alongside those books is knowledge of the folktales and myths of vampires but I can't be sure if any of the tricks agains them would work. For now I'll stick to the common defense tricks that most tales follow like silver, garlic and stakes.I'm just lucky that the company I have seems to be mostly sane and willing to protect everyone. Still I can't help but be paranoid of everyone now. I hope you're doing better than me. Please find some reliable company but do not trust anyone fully.Stay safe,

Dear VenI have arrived in town in the last couple of days, and it is truly a test of willpower.
Half the travellers that arrived are mad, disbelieving wolves while running around speaking of magic and fairies, I think you could learn something from them if given the chance.
I am convinced there is something sinister behind all this, as none seem to be able to leave at the moment.
To my merciful benefit some of the sane travellers have banded together with me to build some shelter from the weather, although the cold has kept things rush.I hope to hear of your travels soonRegards

Dear VenI am sorry to hear your alone in figuring out that crisis, I have managed to find a explorer and have begun making hypothesis for the situation with them.The pixie dust duo in town believe that some of the old tombs around here are being filled by magic. I rather believe someone's just refilling them in while we were not looking.During the exploration recently we did find a massive graveyard, Entirely unmarked but holding a beacon, same as has been found in ruins around the area. My suspicion is that they are the cause of the barrier imprisoning us, although the how and why still eludes me.Sadly There is little in the way of valuable materials so i doubt i am going to be able to do much here, but apart from the small madness in this town it seems to be rebuilding fine, No clear cause for why the town died.Regards, Dr Magnus

The DeadwoodsThese Pale trees are coated in dark bark, Internally the logs are white as are the leaves. The tree exhibits qualities akin to that of the Quercus genus, Possibly even a subspecies of oak.Despite the look these trees show no sign of disease or illness rather they lack chlorophyll, akin to the corpse plant. Given the size of the woods here this indicates a vast mycelium network or quite possibly a root system that links to conventual oak treesThe good news is that this means they are safe to interact with, allowing a more extended trip into the forest without fear, although they may be the cause of faster degredation (See Exploration log 3)

Sturdy palasade walls surround the town, not a single building rest intact upon arrival, and a beacon sits in the old central tower. no sign of life before the arrival of the travelers. Suspiciously all travelers arrived at the same time. Some unknown force prevents leaving southward.2 Castle
Directly north from town. A sturdy but broken bridge leads to the peak of this mountain, there's signs of a building all but worn from the years, a beacon rests on a platform. Unlike other beacons this one was red upon first observation.-B Castle Catacombs
The Catacombs have held up very well compared to the castle, although they still lack any signs of being disturbed recently.3 Radio Tower
A rickety radio tower a short distance into the Deadwoods Northeast from town, aparently worn down unusually fast (See Recovered notes “Maintenance log 4”), A beacon rests on it. With the maintenance log there was also a book writen by a madman (In possession of Stell)4 Graveyard
Deep in the Deadwoods northeast from castle, Hundreds of unmarked graves line the area between two mountians, including a section dug into one, A a ruined tower rests at the center with a beacon on it5 The Empty Grave

Hello,I don't know if anyone will recieve this. But I discovered that letters are actually being sent, and I felt...compelled? To just write something.I do feel a bit bad, for sending off whatever dove takes this, with no purpose.It'd be awful sad if it died to a hawk out there in the wilds, for no reason.Well. I've had an eventful few days. Stumbled into a strange town, and... discovered some things, out in the wilds of this area....Some books."Haste" and "Turn Undead," they were titled. Haste, it made me...stronger. Got me out of a bad situation, stuck in a cave."Turn Undead" appeared right after I almost met a nasty end to a creeper, of all things.I haven't used that one yet. It... gives me a weird feeling....I talked to Icey, today. They're curious. A wanderer, much like myself, but when they talk about it, they... I think this is new, for them.I also told them about Mom.It was easier than it used to be, to explain. I found I didn't actually mind all that much.Them and Novo are the people I trust the most, right now. Others have been nice, a bit strange, but not unkind. I’ll be honest, when I found your first letter, I thought you were some poor insane soul. I suppose I’m glad you found a town and shelter, but it’s strange how similar our circumstances seem despite never meeting you.
When I arrived at these ruins, I was fully expecting to be able to explore them alone. That has not been the case. So many people showed up at the exact same time, and so many of them are either insane or incompetent. Two of them in particular are obsessed with magic and fairytales. A recent friend of mine has taken to calling them the Pixie Dust Duo, a name I think is very fitting. That said, I’m grateful to have found one person I can trust as a confidant, and a few more that I can trust are actually sane. I hope you are as well, because the fact that I’m getting your notes is strange enough already.Best,

[this letter is significantly more rushed than the previous, with many of the words smudged, like the person writing didn’t wait for the ink to dry properly]Oh my god.The people in this town are [smudged] insane. Yes, there is something deeply wrong with the land that Oakhurst is built on, but that doesn’t mean we need to start jumping people!!
My own roommate, someone who has done absolutely NOTHING but help build our house, got accused of attacking someone, and is having people actively threaten him!
Even the people who I believed had at least some rationality immediately turned on them, hell, they were leading the mob!!
I know you said your group is more sane, and I really hope that stays the case but…please be wary of the idiots who would like to start a mob.-Stell
